30th January 1982. The first personal computer virus "Elk Cloner" was created by 15-year-old Richard Skrenta as a practical joke. He wrote the virus for the Apple II operating system. Stored on floppy disks, the virus copied itself to any uninfected floppy disks when a user booted a computer from an infected floppy disk.
